Throw all waste material in the waste baskets
Since the onset of the sanitary crisis STIB-MIVB has stepped up the hygiene measures in its stations, as well as in its vehicles. Indeed, we are dedicated to carrying out our mission, which is to take our customers to their destination, while ensuring the best possible hygiene levels across our network.
Which measures are in place?

In our stations
A team of 120 professional cleaners is making sure on a daily basis that our stations are kept as clean as possible. This team is on duty 7 days a week and 365 days a year. STIB-MIVB has enhanced its cleaning regime upon the announcement of the lockdown measures by the National Security Council.
These additional measures, such as extra emptying of waste baskets and more frequent removal of litter, have allowed us to visibly improve the cleanliness of our stations. Since the 18th of March every station is being cleaned between 1 and 4 times a day, according to its importance.
Our stations are not only cleaned but also disinfected on a daily basis. In order to guarantee the highest levels of hygiene, all touch points are now also disinfected. Elevators, escalators and stairs, railings, validating machines, tactile sign boards for the visually impaired, as well as all the GO vending machines in our stations and at our above ground stops, are now also wiped down with disinfectant.
In our buses
Apart from their daily cleaning at the bus depots, our buses are also disinfected. This disinfection process is twofold. A first disinfection is taking place at the last stop of each bus route. A second, more thorough, disinfection is carried out in each of our five depots, where the touch points of all our buses are carefully wiped down with disinfectant. More than 100 persons in our depots are working on cleaning the 800 STIB-MIVB buses.
Every vehicle that has just been cleaned has a “certificate” affixed on its windshield, which offers the peace of mind to our bus drivers knowing they can safely drive off.
In our metros and trams
The cleaning teams who are usually taking care of metro and tram cleaning have received additional support from external cleaners. A total of 300 professional cleaners are making sure on a daily basis that our tram and metro vehicles are kept clean. All the vehicles that are leaving our depots in the morning have been cleaned beforehand. All work and control procedures have been revised in order to make sure they comply with the cleaning regulations, in quality as well as an in quantity.
As a conclusion, we would like to remind you that everyone aged 12 and older must wear a face mask at our stops, in our stations and on board all our vehicles. This is the best way to protect yourselves and the others travellers. In order to ensure compliance with this important safety measure, we have increased the number of checks that we are carrying out with the help of police agents.
Cleanliness is a responsibility of us all! We take care of our stations and vehicles, please help us keep them clean and throw all waste material in the waste baskets.
