Let's head for Les Marolles, a unique district in the heart of the capital.
Every month, we (re)discover a district that's close to our hearts. Let's head for Les Marolles, a unique district in the heart of the capital. Brocantes, quaint cafés and Belgian delicacies await you.
Marolles
Located right in the city centre, between the Gare du Midi, the Palais de Justice and the Sablon, the Marolles district is unique.
We're sharing some of our favourite addresses, which are sure to make you want to take a trip there. Take the metro (L2-6 to Porte de Hal), the tram (L3/4/82 to Lemonnier or L92/93 to Poelaert) or the bus (L48/52 to Jeu de Balle).
First of all, the famous Place du Jeu de Balle and its flea market... Nestling at the end of the Rue Blaes, it has been a meeting place for second-hand dealers and furniture lovers every morning since 1873. All around, on the façades of the alleyways and cul-de-sacs, the walls are adorned with drawings of Belgian comic strips. We particularly recommend the Boule et Bill fresco (Rue du Chevreuil).
The walk then continues in one of the many cafés surrounding the Place du Jeu de Balle: the Brocante and its cobbled terrace (Rue Blaes), which offers an unbeatable view. It's a great way to immerse yourself in the life of the Marolles, while enjoying a delicious Belgian beer. Another nugget for a festive weekend atmosphere is the Centro Cabraliego (Rue Haute). Here you can enjoy delicious drinks and tapas.
At Les Marolles, your taste buds are sure to be delighted, as the district is packed with restaurants. Fans of unusual places? Le Renard Bleu (Rue des Renards), with its colourful facade, offers an unusual setting.
