Access to certain data
Why does the mobile app request access to certain data (contacts, calendar, location)?
The STIB-MIVB mobile app requests permission to access certain data to save you time when choosing your departure and arrival point. Therefore, it requires access to:
- the address book and the calendar in order to allow you to launch an itinerary search directly from the address of one of your contacts or the address of an event saved in your calendar.
These data are only stored in the STIB-MIVB databases if you freely decide to save a "favourite" from these data. Otherwise, the data are available through the app but they are by no means stored in our database. - the location in order to obtain an itinerary search based on your location and to visualise the stops and possible disruptions nearby. This consent also allows you to obtain notifications during the journey and to save frequently used lines and places visited.
Advantages of creating an account
What are the advantages of creating an account?
By creating an account, you will benefit from the following additional features:
- Management of your user profile, which is accessible on all your devices;
- Memorisation of favourites (address, stop or line): this allows you to launch an itinerary search directly towards a destination saved as a favourite or to instantly access the details of a favourite line or the waiting time at the stops (real time);
- History of the performed itinerary searches;
- Reception of notifications to be warned before starting an itinerary or during a journey to know when to alight from the vehicle;
- etc.
You can also choose whether or not to enable the following features:
- Memorisation of the most used lines;
- App personalisation allowing the display of the most relevant information (used lines, places visited, etc.);
- Visualisation of the alerts indicating the disruptions according to your frequently used lines;
- Reception of communications about the STIB-MIVB services and products: the newsletter, the network information, the polls, the season ticket renewal alerts, the app updates or the partner communications;
- etc.
An account to create favourites
Why do I have to create an account in order to create favourites?
Creating an account allows us to personalise your experience on all your devices by accessing your user profile which contains your favourites and your preferences. Your personal data are indeed stored in the STIB-MIVB databases and processed securely by STIB-MIVB which attaches the utmost importance to the protection of your privacy.
The STIB-MIVB mobile application will evolve, in particular by integrating personalised features, which will require prior identification, such as consulting information related to the MOBIB card.
You can also be assured that STIB-MIVB will not market these data to external parties.
Smart assistant
What is the smart assistant?
The purpose of this option is to provide you with the most relevant travellers information compared to your search or user habits, at a specific moment of the day, on a specific weekday, to the frequency of use of certain STIB-MIVB lines, etc.
By giving your consent to this option, you will have access to the following additional features:
- Memorisation of the most used lines;
- App personalisation allowing the display of the most relevant information (used lines, places visited, etc.);
- Visualisation of the alerts indicating the disruptions according to your frequently used lines.
In the future, STIB-MIVB wishes to:
- Send notifications based on your location. For instance, safety-related notifications in the event of a station evacuation or closure;
- Analyse this data anonymously to improve the service offer. For example, implement a new bus line after identifying a high demand in an unoperated area.
The stored and processed personal data are the frequently used lines (number of the used line) and the places visited (destination or departure stops, connections).
Personal data from Facebook
What does STIB-MIVB do with personal data from Facebook when using Facebook connect?
STIB-MIVB offers you the possibility to connect to the app with your Facebook profile. In that case, additional registration with STIB-MIVB is no longer required. Your personal data from Facebook (first name, last name, e-mail address and date of birth) are only used in order to fill the fields in advance when creating the account. These personal data are stored and processed in the same way as for an account created with an e-mail address.
No other data are received or processed from Facebook (not even your password).
Use of personal data
What does STIB-MIVB do with personal data collected in the mobile app?
The processing of personal data in the app mainly aims to provide a personalised service in relation to your habits, your location and your preferences, provided that you have given your prior consent for this purpose. This personalisation will be executed through information messages (e.g.: network disruptions or other relevant information with regard to the searched itinerary), communications (e.g.: in case of a station evacuation) and own marketing actions (advertising).
As a second purpose, STIB-MIVB will use the personal data to statistical ends, to analyse the information needs and the use of its network in order to improve its transport service offer and the mobility in Brussels in general. To achieve this purpose, the personal data will be made anonymous.
Any option that processes personal data is activated after your prior free consent (opt-in), which you can revoke at any time in the app (via the "Settings" tab, at the bottom right of the main menu). STIB-MIVB keeps a record of any change in order to prove that the personal data are not stored nor processed if the consent is not given at the time of the action.
If you do not want to give your consent to a particular option, you can continue to use the app, although the access to some features, which require this personal data to operate and to provide you with a personalised service, will in this case be limited.

The lines parallel to a line can be found on the screen "Lines".
Select the desired line on your smartphone screen and then swipe to the right.
