Albert station
A major mobility hub
At the Albert station, renovation work has started to prepare the station for the arrival of Metro 3. The station in the heart of Forest/Vorst will become an important link in the mobility chain in the south of the city.
Albert station gets a makeover
As part of the metro 3 project, the existing premetro line between Gare du Nord/ Noordstation and Albert will be converted into a line suitable for metro use. In the process, the Albert station will also be completely renovated.
The conversion of the premetro station into a multimodal hub was already planned when the station was built 30 years ago. The terminus of the future metro 3 will be built on the existing tram platforms (level -2). This line will not only provide a convenient link with Gare du Midi/Zuidstation and the city centre, but will also eventually connect with Schaerbeek/Schaarbeek and Evere.
On the intermediate level (level -1), the large ticket hall will become a new tram station, with terminuses for lines 4 and 51. In a second phase, tram line 7 will also be extended from its current terminus at Vanderkindere to Albert, which will further increase the number of connections at this location.
Project
Lifts and bicycle parking
The redevelopment will make the station more accessible and more user-friendly. The station will have 5 lifts, including 2 above ground, making it accessible to all people with reduced mobility. Accessibility will also be improved by replacing all the escalators. These measures will also facilitate access to the various bus lines that run above ground (lines 37, 48 and 54).
All the station's equipment and finishing touches will also be renewed (floors, walls, ceilings, lighting, roller shutters, signal systems, low-voltage equipment, etc.). After the refurbishment, the station Albert will also have a secure bicycle parking area, making it easier for people from the surrounding area to cycle to the station and switch to public transport.
