Heatwave
Travel safely
Published on
Is a heatwave or period of very hot weather forecast? Here’s everything you need to know to plan your journeys and travel safely.
Tips for your journeys
Before you go:
- If possible, avoid travelling during the hottest part of the day, especially if you have a fragile condition
- Plan your journeys by checking real-time information, traffic updates and our Whatsapp channel for any disruptions
- Where possible, choose air-conditioned or ventilated services such as buses, metros and newer trams
All about ventilation on our vehicles
During your journey:
- Always carry a bottle of water and drink regularly: this map shows you where you can find a water fountain if needed
- Find a shady spot while you wait. A hat or umbrella can help protect you from the sun during the hottest part of the day or at stops with little shade
- Look out for anyone who may need help
A small act of kindness can make all the difference. If someone feels unwell, has a high fever or appears confused, help them leave the vehicle and call 112. And if this happens to you, do the same.
Impact on the network
Extreme heat can cause road and rails to deform. If this happens, some tram services may be disrupted while our maintenance teams carry out the necessary repairs.
We know that travelling in very hot weather can be more challenging. Thank you for your understanding, and please take good care of yourself.
