Chaussée de Mons/Bergense Steenweg: refurbishment and replacement of tram tracks
Works schedule and planned progress
Published on
Brussels Mobility refurbishes square Albert Ier/Albert I-square, chaussée de Mons/Bergense Steenweg, square Vandervelde/Vanderveldesquare and the Cureghem/Kuregem roundabout on the canal bridge. This project aims to improve the accessibility and the quality of journeys for all road users.
In this context, we renew the public transport infrastructure and make the most of the works to improve the residents and travellers' comfort, while improving the service of line 81.
Once the works are over, the whole neighbourhood will benefit from a more coherent and pleasant public space, with modern infrastructures.
Security, our priority
The replacement of worn-out tracks is necessary to keep the network safe and efficient. Thanks to these works, you can enjoy sturdier, more modern and quieter public transport.
New technical equipment
In addition to the replacement of tracks, the works also aim to renew technical equipment such as overhead lines, the power supply and the signalling.
Track works are planned in different phases so that square Vandervelde/Vanderveldesquare, chaussée de Mons/Bergense Steenweg and their strategic intersections are not under construction at the same time.
Tram service temporarily altered
Tram 81 is replaced by shuttle buses during the whole duration of the works, and bus 46 is diverted depending on the phases of the works.
Here you can find all the information to help you plan your journeys.
Accessibility during the works
We are working in collaboration with Brussels Mobility and several parties to limit the impact on your mobility.
Access for residents and the emergency services, as well as walkways and bike lanes will remain open as much as possible.
Communication about these works is handled by Brussels Mobility.
