Metro line 3
Construction of a new tunnel and 7 stations
In a few years, Brussels will have a new metro line that will connect the Bordet station, located in Evere,to the Albert station, situated in Forest/Vorst, in just 20 minutes, passing through the city centre.
Line 3 will be a north-south-oriented line, complementing the existing metro network, which is predominantly east-west oriented.
Plan of Metro 3
M3 Project
The M3 project is a partnership between the federal government and the Brussels-Capital Region, which will be implemented in two distinct and successive phases:
Phase 1: The transformation of the pre-metro into a metro, between Albert and Gare du Nord/Noordstation, a pilot project by STIB-MIVB.
Phase 2: Extension of the metro between Gare du Nord/Noordstation and Bordet, a pilot project by Beliris.

Phases
PHASE 1
Construction works for the first phase of Metro 3 are in full swing. Work is underway at the new Toots Thielemans station, near the Lemonnier station. The first phase also includes the transformation of the Albert station into a multimodal station.
Work has begun at Gare du Nord/Noordstation for the construction of a new connecting tunnel.
PHASE 2
In the second phase, the line will be extended to the northern region with the creation of a 5 km tunnel between Gare du Nord/Noordstation and Bordet station.
The tunnel will be excavated using a tunnel boring machine.
Seven new stations will be built along this route, serving the municipalities of Schaerbeek and Evere: Liedts, Colignon, Verboekhoven, Riga, Tilleul/Linde, Paix/Vrede, and Bordet. A new metro depot will also be established at the STIB-MIVB site in Haren.
We are currently undergoing the authorisation procedure for phase 2. When the line is completed, passengers will be able to use a new 10.3-kilometer metro line comprising 18 stations.
