Tram track replacement on avenue de Tervueren/Tervurenlaan

STIB-MIVB is replacing the tram tracks on avenue de Tervueren/Tervurenlaan, between boulevard de la Woluwe/Woluwelaan and square Léopold II/Leopold II-square. The Jules César/Julius Caesar and Chien Vert/Groene Hond stops are also being renewed. These works help keep the tram network safe, reliable and efficient.

Tram track replacement

Tram track renewal is essential to keep the network safe and reliable and to reduce the risk of unexpected service disruptions. Tram tracks generally need replacing after around 25 years.

STIB-MIVB manages almost 150 km of tram tracks and renews an average of 12 km each year. This helps keep the tram network safe, reliable and efficient.

In 2026 and 2027, part of avenue de Tervueren/Tervurenlaan is next for renewal. STIB-MIVB is replacing the tram tracks between boulevard de la Woluwe/Woluwelaan and square Léopold II/Leopold II-square.

The Jules César/Julius Caesar and Chien Vert/Groene Hond stops are also being renewed.

Brussels Mobility will also install several traffic-calming platforms. Their schedule will be added to the detailed presentation as soon as it is available.

Public transportation organisation

During the works, the section of tram lines 39 and 44 between Montgomery and Musée du Tram/Trammuseum is served by a T-Bus via the main lanes of avenue de Tervueren/Tervurenlaan.

The T-Bus continues to Merode, providing an easy connection to the metro network.

Bus 36 towards Maelbeek/Maalbeek also runs on the main lanes of avenue de Tervueren/Tervurenlaan, between Musée du Tram/Trammuseum and Chien Vert/Groene Hond.

Works from September to April

The tram track and stop works run from 28 September 2026 to April 2027.

On 2 October, work takes place at night near Musée du Tram/Trammuseum to install a temporary switch that allows trams to turn back during the works.

Impact on mobility

The pavements remain accessible throughout the works.

In the side lane, the traffic lane next to the tram tracks is occupied by the worksite in some places. Local traffic remains possible and is temporarily diverted through the parking areas. Parking is therefore unavailable there during the works.

Local diversions are introduced as the works progress. The crossings between the side and main lanes at Chien Vert/Groene Hond and Jules César/Julius Caesar are also closed for a period.
