Avenue Louise/Louizalaan: renewal of part of the tracks and redevelopment of the Vleurgat stops

As from 1 June and all summer long

Published on

As from 1 June 2026, we are replacing the tram tracks with tracks of the same design on avenue Louise/Louizalaan, between rue du Châtelain/Kasteleinsstraat and rue Paul Lauters/Paul Lautersstraat.

This work is part of a wider project led by Brussels Mobility in collaboration with STIB-MIVB. It aims to improve passenger comfort and safety, enhance accessibility at stops and create a high-quality, harmonious look for this iconic main road.

Works in two parts

The works take place in two separate parts

  • from rue du Châtelain/Kasteleinsstraat to the Phoenix 44 statue (not included)
  • from rue de l’Abbaye/Abdijstraat to rue Paul Lauters/Paul Lautersstraat

The tram platforms at the Vleurgat stops are also being redeveloped by Brussels Mobility.

Construction zones

Access and trafic

To ensure access for residents and businesses

  • parking is temporarily prohibited on the odd-numbered side of the road along the construction zones
  • the side lane on the odd-numbered side is closed to traffic during working hours between rue Tenbosch/Tenboschstraat and chaussée de Vleurgat/Vleurgatsesteenweg

Important dates

  • from 29 June to 28 August the turning area near no. 283 is closed (you can turn around at the Louise/Louiza-Vleurgat intersection)
  • from 27 July to 7 August the side lane on the odd-numbered side (nos. 301–349) is closed for a week.  A diversion is put in place via chaussée de Vleurgat/Vleurgatsesteenweg, rue Jacques Jordaens/Jakob Jordaensstraat, and rue De Crayer/De Crayerstraat

Public transport

The track replacement works affects tram services:

  • trams 8 and 93 are suspended between Bailli/Baljuw and Legrand
  • thanks to replacement bus 96 you can still travel between these two stops

Detailed information is available via the traffic information page and at the affected stops. The journey planner on the website and in the app can also help you recalculate your route.
