Waterloo – Churchill works
Redevelopment of tracks at the Churchill intersection from 25 April until 8 May 2026.
Published on
The tram tracks at the bend of the intersection between avenue Winston Churchill/Winston Churchilllaan and chaussée de Waterloo/Waterloosesteenweg are damaged and must be replaced to ensure the safe operation of the line.
In order to minimize the nuisance on passengers, inhabitants and traffic, the works are planned during the spring holiday for French-speaking schools, from 25 April until 8 May 2026.
Diverted traffic
During the works, traffic is temporarily altered at the intersection:
- On chaussée de Waterloo/Waterloosesteenweg coming from the Bascule neighbourhood, cars can turn right to reach avenue Winston Churchill/Winston Churchilllaan via avenue Bel-Air/Schone Luchtlaan. Coming from the south, traffic is redirected via avenue Montjoie/Montjoielaan. Homes and garages on Chaussée de Waterloo and the even-numbered side of Churchill Avenue remain accessible to local traffic when approaching from La Bascule.
- Coming out of the Bois de la Cambre/Terkamerenbos via avenue de la Lisière/Boskantlaan, avenue Winston Churchill/Winston Churchilllaan is not accessible. Motorists must turn left on chaussée de Waterloo/Waterloosesteenweg to get to the diversion via avenue Montjoie/Montjoielaan.
- Coming from the Churchill roundabout on avenue Winston Churchill/Winston Churchilllaan, it is impossible to turn left on chaussée de Waterloo/Waterloosesteenweg to reach the Bascule neighbourhood. Motorists can turn right on avenue De Fré/De Frélaan or get to Bois de la Cambre/Terkamerenbos.
Houses, garages and pavements remain accessible. Pedestrian diversions are set up around the construction site.

Night works and altered traffic at Legrand
To minimise the disruptions of the construction site on tram line 7, STIB-MIVB installs a temporary switch on avenue Legrand/Legrandlaan in the night of 24 to 25 April.
Until 8 May, avenue Legrand/Legrandlaan is a dead end on both sides of the switch, between numbers 30 and 40. Pavements and houses remain accessible.
A temporary switch, also known as a California switch, allows trams to do a U-turn where they couldn't do so before. These works are essential to allow trams coming from Heysel/Heizel to go back on avenue Legrand/Legrandlaan. Thanks to these adaptations, the majority of the line can continue to operate during works.

Network impact
Due to these works, tram 7 is temporarily interrupted between Bascule and Vanderkindere, and a replacement bus is running between Legrand and Vanderkindere. This T-bus does not serve the Bascule stop direction Vanderkindere.
Bus 38 is also locally diverted between Van Eyck and Montjoie/Gossart to avoid the construction site.
