Why are we renovating Maelbeek/Maalbeek metro station?
Brussels Mobility and STIB-MIVB are refurbishing metro station Maelbeek/Maalbeek in 2025 in order for your journeys to be more comfortable and safer. The works are being combined to minimise disruption.
Visible works
Maelbeek/Maalbeek station continues its transformation. Ongoing works will make your travels easier, more comfortable and accessible.
- On chaussée d’Etterbeek/Etterbeeksesteenweg the gates are reorganised to facilitate your access. New spaces are dedicated to services like a photobooth and vending machines.
- Some equipment is being moved to free up space and improve the overview in the station. The signage is also being updated to guide you more effectively.
- Accessibility is improved for everyone: tactile paving, double handrails, and improved colour contrast on the floor near the stairs.
More comfort in the station
The wall tiles in the entrances are being replaced, and the signage is being renewed. The vending machines and photobooth are moving to a new spot inside the station. This will create more space and provide clear orientation.
An improved memorial space
During the refurbishment, the station was also better arranged to accommodate commemorations of the 22 March 2016 attacks. Part of the works was completed by March 2026, allowing visitors to enter the station in a calm and respectful environment.
