Adaptation of the STIB-MIVB network
From Monday 2 March 2026
Published on
We modify our network. From Monday 2 March, a few bus lines are adapted. Bus line 61 is extended to Pléiades/Plejaden, taking over the itinerary of current bus line 27. Lines 27 and 33 will no longer run. All stops remain served by other lines, offering a better frequency.
These changes are based on a detailed analysis, to better fit your STIB-MIVB trips. Discover the maps and all details below.
Further, it has been decided that buses 12, 21, 56, 60 and 79 will not return to the Schuman roundabout after the works are finished.
What changes on lines 27 and 61?
Bus 61 will run beyond Montgomery. Its new route will be Gare du Nord/Noordstation -Pléiades/Plejaden. It will take over the part of the current route of bus 27, which now runs between Luxembourg/Luxemburg and Pléiades/Plejaden.
From Pléiades/Plejaden, you can benefit from a new direct connection to metro lines 2 and 6 at Botanique/Kruidtuin.
As a result, bus line 27 will stop running. All stops between Montgomery and Luxembourg/Luxemburg will still be served by other lines with higher frequency, so there is always an alternative for your trip.
On weekdays and during the weekend you'll never have to wait more than 15 minutes for a bus and during peak hours you can even hop on a bus every 10 minutes.
And these are your alternative options for the Luxembourg/Luxemburg and Merode stops:
- Metro 1 or 5 between Maelbeek/Maalbeek and Merode, and then bus 61 to Pléiades/Plejaden
- Bus 21 or 64 between Luxembourg/Luxemburg and Parc Léopold/Leopoldspark
- Bus 36 from Maelbeek/Maalbeek to Nerviens/Nerviërs
- Bus 80 from Meudon to Gaulois/Galliërs
Curious of your new route? The trip planner will include these March changes from 20 February. Simply select a travel date from 2 March onwards to get the correct information.
Bus line 33 discontinued
Like line 27, bus line 33 is one of the least used lines on the network. Passenger data shows that several other lines already serve the short trip between Dansaert and Louise/Louiza efficiently, with no loss of accessibility.
Use one of these lines to reach your destination:
- Metro 1 or 5 between Gare Centrale/Centraal Station and Sainte-Catherine/Sint-Katelijne
- Metro 2 or 6 between Louise/Louiza and Porte de Namur/Naamsepoort
- Tram 4 or 10 between Anneessens en De Brouckère (via Bourse/Beurs)
- Metro 92 or 93 between Louise/Louiza and Petit Sablon/Kleine Zavel
- Bus 48 between Place du Grand Sablon/Grote Zavel and Anneessens (via Grand-Place/Grote Markt and Manneken-pis)
- Bus 95 between César de Paepe and Royale/Koning

Diversions around Schuman
Because of the redevelopment of rond-point Robert Schuman/Robert Schumanplein, our buses have been diverted for almost two years. Since the new configuration of the Schuman roundabout does not allow the circulation of our buses, we decided that our buses will not return to the roundabout after the works. That's why the official terminus of bus 56 and 79 is changed from Schuman to Maelbeek/Maalbeek as of 2 March.
The connection between buses 12, 21 and 60 and metro lines 1 and 5 remains ensured at Maelbeek/Maalbeek instead of Schuman.
More improvements are on the way. New spacious trams and electric buses will soon join the network. For you, that means more capacity, more comfort and lower emissions.
