Mission, vision and responsibility
Making Brussels better is part of the daily missions of STIB-MIVB. Our aim is to improve the quality of life and the environment in Brussels, offering sustainable, reliable and safe mobility. We also regularly interact with our stakeholders to meet our passengers’ expectations and needs.
Our mission, vision and values
Since 22 November 1990, STIB-MIVB has been entrusted with the operation of public transport in the Brussels-Capital Region. It goes without saying that we do our outmost to meet the travel needs and expectations of our customers. Our mission is to always offer:
- the best transport solution,
- with a competitive travel time, at an affordable price, and
- under excellent conditions of comfort and security.
And with one vision in mind: get Brussels moving.
Bus drivers, control agents, project managers... they all share these 5 common values and apply them wholeheartedly on a daily basis:
- responsibility
- attention
- simplicity and discipline
- commitment and pride
- team spirit
Our priorities
Public transport for a sustainable city
Public transport enhances mobility and improves the quality of life in Brussels:
- It makes Brussels a better place to live: less polluting emissions improve the air quality significantly.
- It helps to reduce the noise in the city: roaring engines, honking horns, screeching tires... fewer cars in the streets mean less noise pollution.
- It lowers frustrations on the road: nobody likes traffic jams or having to drive around for hours to find a parking spot. Fewer vehicles on the road, less hustle in the streets.
- It brings people together: having a small chat at the bus stop can recharge your social battery in no time. This is especially valuable in a city with vulnerable people.
Reduced ecological footprint
By 2035, our entire fleet will be green. Reducing our footprint is also a matter of limiting energy consumption in our buildings, in waste management and in our stations.
Safe public transport
When it comes to passenger transport, safety is of the utmost importance. This is why we invest in a range of safety measures, so you feel safe in our stations, on our platforms and in our vehicles.
Accessible stations, stops and vehicles for everyone
Whether you’re heading to the office, enjoying a night out with friends or going to your sports club, effortless travel to your destination is key. That’s why we offer accessible transport solutions for all our travellers.
A connected society with stronger social cohesion
Society is only as strong as its weakest link. By offering a broad range of public transport solutions, we want to bring Brussels inhabitants together and put an end to societal vulnerability and exclusion. This is a common goal with our partners.
Happy co-workers
Personal and professional development is a matter of small steps: a pat on the shoulder, extra training, a new challenge... We believe that people can grow when given the opportunity to do so. This is why we strive for maximum well-being and development for our employees.
A responsible organisation
Every five years, a public service contract sets out the missions and commitments of STIB-MIVB and the Brussels-Capital Region. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is an integral part of our corporate plan, which executes the contract and is at the core of our strategy and projects. The board of directors follows up closely on the execution of the contract and how it is carried out.
In dialogue with the stakeholders
Public transport and society are deeply intertwined.
By engaging in dialogue with stakeholders such as suppliers, employees and local communities, we can ask ourselves critical questions such as: what is working well and where can we improve? What are the risks related to our services? And how can we better match our offer to the needs of society? Society inspires us to improve every day.
The close cooperation with internal and external partners is one of the focal points of our corporate social responsibility policy. At the same time, it defines opportunities for growth and it strengthens the credibility of our organisation. Although there is always room for growth.
Customers
Letters, emails, calls and messages on social media from our customers provide us continuous feedback about our services. Our Customer Care team follows up on questions, answers them and provides the necessary information.
We measure our customers’ satisfaction on a yearly basis through our satisfaction barometer. This great survey is carried out by an independent market research company at the request of the Brussels-Capital Region.
Local residents
Brussels inhabitants like to keep up to date with what’s changing in their city. That’s why we continually communicate with local residents:
- When works are planned, we designate one contact person to inform the local residents and gather their feedback.
- Temporary expositions also allow local inhabitants to stay informed about planned works.
Stakeholders in the city
Had a few drinks? Too tired to drive? During events in and around Brussels, our buses, trams and metros get you home safely. Mobility plans designed in close collaboration with different stakeholders in the city make for:
- a better offer with more metro, tram and bus services;
- accurate information about the accessibility of events;
- extra shuttle services or transport for events like Couleur Café and Museum Night Fever;
- adapted ticketing.
Associations
STIB-MIVB joins forces with associations that offer professional support for vulnerable groups in society. A dedicated contact person interacts daily with associations.
Schools
Tomorrow's mobility stakeholders are hitting the books in classrooms today. For many years now, we have been visiting schools, raising awareness about mobility and introducing our youngsters to job opportunities in Brussels public transport.
- With the sensibilisation and prevention campaign MobX Adventure, we organise all kinds of activities for pupils in grades 5 and 6. They discover the theme of mobility through enigma’s, a mystery box and several challenges.
- Pupils at school but also students in universities and university colleges get to know us, our activities and the mobility sector during information sessions and internships.
- Young people can come visit our workshops and follow presentations on our major projects. This is an opportunity to go behind the scenes of the head office and the tram, bus and metro stations.
Partners for employment
Mobility is a matter of ever-evolving challenges. That is why we are permanently looking for new colleagues. In order to get more Brussels inhabitants at work, we joined forces with Actiris, the Brussels regional employment office.
Employees
As provided by law, the social dialogue within the company takes place during the Work council (Conseil d’Entreprise/Ondernemingsraad) and the Committee for prevention and protection at work (CPPT/CPBW), as well as in multiple other committees endorsed with specific missions.
