Redevelopment of Van Gehuchten Square

Van Gehuchten Square and the surrounding streets will be redeveloped in 2026. Thanks to the works, a new terminus for tram line 62 will be created, the tram will run on its own green track and accessibility for people with reduced mobility will be improved.

Project Information

Van Gehuchten Square and its surroundings are served by tram lines 51 and 93, as well as bus lines 14, 83, and 88. The square is an intermodal hub for residents of the neighbourhood and visitors to the Brugmann Hospital. To improve the efficiency and accessibility of public transport in the area, several works will be carried out. 

Objectives of the works: 

  • Redeveloping the public space from facade to facade and enhancing the entrance to the Brugmann Hospital. 
  • Make the Brugmann Hospital stops more accessible to people with reduced mobility. 
  • Renew the worn tram tracks on Guillaume De Greef Avenue and Van Gehuchten Square. 
  • Construct a new terminus for tram line 62 

Timing and works

The building permit was issued on 05/03/2025.  
The works are planned for the first semester of 2026. Details on the start date, their phasing and organisation are being finalised. Relevant details will be communicated as soon as they are available. All efforts will be made to make it easier for residents and users of the affected roads.
