Trams 4 and 10 suspended between Porte de Hal/Hallepoort and Gare du Midi/Zuidstation
Adapted transport offer during the works
Published on
The tunnel under place Bara/Baraplein needs repairs. Replacing the concrete slab is essential to keep the network safe and reliable for everyone.
From 27 April 2026, tram services will be suspended for one year between Gare du Midi/Zuidstation and Porte de Hal/Hallepoort. Tram lines 4, 10, 51 and 81 are affected.
We’re adapting the transport offer during the works to help you reach your destination as smoothly as possible. Metro lines 2 and 6 will continue to run as usual.
What's changing for you?
From 27 April, works in the tunnel under place Bara/Baraplein will affect the following tram lines:
- Tram 4: the line is split into two sections: Gare du Nord/Nordstation – Wiels and Porte de Hal/Hallepoort – Stalle
- Tram 10: the line only runs between Hôpital Militaire/Militair Hospitaal and Gare du Midi/Zuidstation
- Tram 51: the line is split into two sections: Lemonnier – Marguerite Duras and Belgica – Stade/Stadion
- Tram 81: the line only runs between Trinité/Drievuldigheid and Montgomery. A replacement bus runs between Marius Renard and Gare du Midi/Zuidstation and bus 96 runs between Trinité/Drievuldigheid and Gare du Midi/Zuidstation

Why these works - and why now?
Trams run through a tunnel under place Bara/Baraplein. They operate on two levels, separated by a concrete slab that is around 40 years old. Over time, water infiltration has damaged the concrete and the steel reinforcements.
By replacing the slab now, we prevent more serious damage and avoid safety risks. The ongoing works for metro line 3 also make the slab easier to access, helping us keep the duration of the works as limited as possible.
