Trams 4 and 10 suspended between Porte de Hal/Hallepoort and Gare du Midi/Zuidstation

From Monday 27 April 2026 until the end of April 2027

Published on

The tunnel under place Bara/Baraplein, used by trams 4 and 10, is damaged and a concrete slab must be replaced. Therefore, major maintenance works have to be executed to guarantee smooth tram traffic, and the comfort and security of travellers.

These works have an impact on tram lines 4, 10, 51 and 81:

  • Tram 4 is interrupted between Gare du Midi / Zuidstation and Porte de Hal / Hallepoort
  • Tram 10 is interrupted between Gare du Midi / Zuidstation and Churchill
  • Tram 51 is interrupted between Lemonnier and Gare du Midi / Zuidstation
  • Tram 81 is replaced by a T-bus between Marius Renard and Gare du Midi / Zuidstation, and by the temporary bus 96 between Gare du Midi / Zuidstation and Trinité / Drievuldigheid.

Numerous alternatives (such as bus 37 that is extended to Gare du Midi / Zuidstation or the diverted bus 50) are provided. Consult the map below or use our trip planner to find your best itinerary.

Why these works - and why now?

The trams run through a tunnel under place Bara/Baraplein. They operate on two levels, separated by a concrete slab that is around 40 years old. Over time, water infiltration has damaged the concrete and the steel reinforcements.

By replacing the slab now, we prevent more serious damage and avoid safety risks. The ongoing works for metro line 3 also make the slab easier to access, helping us keep the duration of the works as limited as possible.
