NATIONAL BANK - MEASURING INSTRUMENTS

SOME CULTURE...

1988

In 1988, the Royal Belgian Mint signed a long-term loan agreement for an old currency press with a pendulum, measuring around 5 metres and about 6.5 tonnes, and a precision balance. These items, which attest to the fiduciary activities which used to take place in the district, are displayed in a window at the Hôtel des Monnaies station, as is an illustration of the former Hôtel des Monnaies, which was partly destroyed, located between the current Rues de Moscou, de la Victoire, Hôtel des Monnaies and Jourdan. Belgian currency was minted there between 1878 and 1976. Today, only a street name and the main building of the Hôtel recall this illustrious history.
