What’s the trick?
There is actually none. In our metro stations, the number of travellers is counted at the entrance gates. In our buses and trams, sensors above the doors count how many travellers get on and alight at each stop. As you can imagine, all these measures generate data, which we already used for adapting our frequencies to the clients’ actual needs. These same data now provide us the estimated occupancy rate of our stations and vehicles. The information shown on the app and website is an average of the previous weeks.
Also, our metro trains and some older buses and trams have not yet been equipped with the on-board counting system. This explains why you cannot yet see how busy it is on some lines. This also applies to our Noctis night buses and to the shuttles used for works or disruptions. And in case you wonder, don’t worry: no personal data is collected in this process.
