JÚLIO POMAR - HOMENAGEM A FERNANDO PESSOA

SOME CULTURE...

Enamelled ceramic wall composition (1992)

The work of art is based on the theme of Portuguese culture and represents the poet Fernando Pessoa having his shoes shined. The figures have an intentionally unfinished look to them. This work of art was exhibited in Belgium during Europalia ’91 and was a gift from Portugal to Belgium. The Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa lived from 1888 to 1935. He managed to give free expression to his passion for poetry whilst earning a living as a civil servant in Lisbon. Other than publications under his own name, Fernando Pessoa also used the pseudonyms Alberto Caeiro, Ricardo Reis and Alvaro dos Campos. Much of his poetry has been translated into other languages.
